The way of tea

THE WAY OF TEA

“Make a delicious bowl of tea;
lay the charcoal so that it heats the water;
arrange the flowers as they are in the field;
in summer suggest coolness, in winter, warmth;
do everything ahead of time;
prepare for rain;
and give those with whom you find yourself every consideration.”

Sen no Rikyū, tea master, 1522-1591

Wherever you sit with tea, whatever cup, whatever leaves, whatever weather, whatever company, give yourself up fully to it.

Die into the tea, let the tea be all there is in this moment, because in this moment, there is only tea, and this moment is the tea.
